Europe Sept 2015

“Curious Pilots Flying Out There Places”

Interlaken 6th – 11th September

Schilthorn_with_Bernese_Alps,_2012_AugustOur 6th Euro tour begins in Interlaken Switzerland on the 6th September 2014. We spend 6 nights in Interlaken in the shadow of the Eiger and Jungfrau. This area has stunning sites to fly and it’s not uncommon to fly up to 7 or more  different sites in 5-6 days. We use cable cars in most cases to access launch but there are vernacular trains and also drive up sites. Normally we try to base ourselves in the Lauterbrunnen Valley the home of BASE and where James Bond famously parachuted after skiing off the 900 m cliffs. Nothing will prepare you for the spectacular scenery of this area. You have to the there to believe it.

Annecy12th – 19th September

DSC00352From Interlaken we drive south to our base at Lake Annecy located within walking distance of the of Planfait Landing area. Planfait is a great site that allows us vehicle access and the ability to get a lot of flying in. There is also a wonderful hike and fly opportunity from the mountain top launch site known as the”the Teeth”located behind Planfait with a very scenic (and moderately strenuous) 90 minute hike. Our other flying option in Annecy is Col der la Forclaz. Col der la Forclaz is also a drive up and a short walk but this site has the best XC possibilities and a huge launch area. We are based in Annecy 7 nights so we hope to fly the Chamonix valley at the base of Mt Blanc for at least one of the days if conditions allow. We also try to visit Geneva where Le Saleve the local city site often gives us great flying.Furthermore we have some great local connections in Annecy that help steer us to sites in and around Annecy that only the locals really know about.

St Hilaire19th September

Picture 115Our base will remain in Annecy this year rather than moving further south. This way we loose no flying time driving and we can also be close to the worlds greatest flying exhibition “The Coupe Icare” at Saint Hilaire. The Coupe Icare is one of the most vibrant air festivals that you can be a part of, full of French flair and color. We plan to fly some of the spectacular sites around the Saint Hilaire area during our stay in the Annecy.  We also plan to visit the exhibition on 19th September as Saturday is normally the day reserved for the flying fancy dress at the Coupe Icare but it is also our last day of the tour. If you require accommodation for the night of the 19th you will need to make your own arrangements as the tour officially ends at 7pm on the 19th September and we will be returning to Annecy/Geneva from the Coupe Icare that evening. At all times we plan to be flexible on tour so as to make the most of the what the weather throws at us.

The tour cost is AU$ 2990.

Tour price includes all instruction and guidance, tandem instructional flights and non flying partner flights. We also provide vehicle transport from our start site in Interlaken onwards to Annecy and all other sites close to our two bases

Many  of the launch sites on the Euro tour allow vehicle drive-up, however any cable car, rail or funicular train transport is not included in the tour cost and is your own expense. We do not provide accommodation in the tour cost but we have sourced some very good low cost share accommodation that generally appeals to everyone on tour. Costs are around € 30-40 ppp night sharing. Most accommodation is self-catering, but good breakfasts are provided in most cases and in some of the venues we can also request evening meals which are also an additional expense. We try to sample local food and have sourced some great places to eat over the years.

At the time of booking we ask you to let us know if you are happy to go with our choice of accommodation so that we can book this as far in advance as possible. Also, if you have any requests such as non-sharing or couple-sharing, please also let us know so that we can make arrangements. At the same time, if you prefer to source your own accommodation please let us know in advance. The tour begins in Interlaken at midday on the 6th September and ends at 7pm on the 19th September At Saint Hilaire/ Annecy. Accommodation on the 19th is not catered for and needs to be made by you if it is needed.
